It’s been a year since my first and last blog post, where I believe I professed I'd do a monthly post, but fuck these things are hard to keep up with.
So what have I been doing?
I graduated from that course at UTS, my Masters of Creative Writing. I formally graduate in April, next month. Though I've already printed a paper version of my testamur and certificate to start preparing the frame. I'm thinking a gold one for my Master, and a silver one for my Bachelor of Film Production from AFTRS.
I write every day, and work in the film industry as a creative producer for corporate content, as an assistant in broadcast for sports companies, in extras casting on and off, and most specially: part-time at Screen Illawarra - where I have officially been at for two years in a week. I freelance in the industry while writing unpaid on the side and this has been working for me - though obviously not for the blog posts - as I build my own personal portfolio and get it ready to share with agents as a first step.
On that note, I gotta get writing. It's Sunday, and I have two 6-hour shifts to get through tomorrow, for two different jobs, so I try to get as much of my creative unpaid work done on weekends. Each day I also set the challenge to write a certain amount (which usually happens at night, the only time I'm not distracted by the beach or emails or texts), and I also read a chapter of a book per day, which I've been doing for the past two years, and helps me get through my endless 'TBR' pile. At the moment it's Harry Potter - and I'm up to the final chapter, eek! Once I finish each novel, I watch the movie version. It's helping me to understand the book adaptation of script to screen. Though, undeniably, a lot of the time you can't beat the books.
Catchya next year.
